An AI tool can help brainstorm search terms or structure a research plan. It should not become the source of truth. Preserve a direct path from each factual statement to an original source that a reader can inspect.
Use AI for planning
Ask for subquestions, alternative terms, or an outline based on a topic. Treat the response as a list of leads. Search for sources independently and prioritize material appropriate to the question, such as official documentation or primary research when available.
Maintain a source ledger
Record the source, publication date, relevant excerpt, and which draft claim it supports. Check quotations and numbers directly. Remove citations that cannot be found or do not support the statement.
Keep research privacy-aware
Do not upload confidential documents, personal records, or restricted material unless the tool has been approved and the data terms are understood. Use public sources or fictional examples for learning. Note uncertainty and preserve editorial review.
