OVERVIEW

About Mobile UI, Navigation, and Accessibility

A mobile interface should make the next action understandable and provide feedback when something changes. Navigation, layout, text, and touch targets need to work across supported screen sizes and accessibility settings.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

What You Will Learn

  • Organize screens around a clear information hierarchy.
  • Design navigation and form states that are easy to understand.
  • Check contrast, labels, touch targets, and assistive-technology behavior.
TOPIC GUIDE

Learn Mobile UI, Navigation, and Accessibility

Build a clear visual hierarchy

Keep the primary task easy to find. Use consistent spacing and headings, and ensure important controls remain visible when text size or screen dimensions change.

Make navigation predictable

Use familiar patterns and clear labels. Preserve user context when moving between screens, and provide a reasonable way to cancel or return without losing work unexpectedly.

Design forms for recovery

Associate labels with fields, describe errors near the relevant control, and retain valid input when a submission fails. Provide loading and disabled states so people do not accidentally submit the same action repeatedly.

Test accessibility and responsiveness

Check contrast, text scaling, focus order, screen-reader labels, and touch target sizes. Review more than one screen size and orientation if the app supports them. Accessibility checks should be part of routine testing.

PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

Example / Code

Example
Screen review
- Is the primary action obvious?
- Does each field have a meaningful label?
- Can an error be identified and corrected?
- Does text scale without clipping?
- Can the flow be completed with assistive technology?
TRY IT YOURSELF

Practice Task

Apply what you learned with a practical activity.

Review a three-screen sign-up flow. Improve its labels, validation messages, loading state, and navigation. Check how the screens behave with larger text and a narrow viewport.

TOOLKIT

Tools & Technologies

  • Wireframe tool
  • Device emulator
  • Accessibility checklist
